- Figure 5 Short-term HS does not affect insulin signaling or CaMKII in isolated skeletal muscle. Isolated epitrochlearis muscle was incubated in medium for 0 (control), 10, or 30 min at 42degC. Muscle was also incubated in the presence of 1 mumol/L insulin for 30 min at 35degC or contracted by electrical stimulation (ES) at 35degC. Muscle was subjected to Western blot analysis for phosphorylated IR (A), phosphorylated Akt (B), or phosphorylated CaMKII (C). Fold increases are expressed relative to the level in muscles of the control group. The values are mean +- SD; n = 5-6 (A), 6-7 (B), and 3-14 (C). * P < 0.05 versus corresponding control.
