Description

Anrukinzumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody designed to specifically neutralize interleukin-13 (IL-13), a key cytokine involved in type 2 inflammation. It was developed as a potential therapeutic for asthma and other allergic diseases. The antibody functions by binding to IL-13 with high affinity, preventing it from interacting with its receptor complex (IL-4R¦Á/IL-13R¦Á1). This blockade aims to inhibit the downstream inflammatory pathways that contribute to airway hyperresponsiveness, mucus hypersecretion, and tissue remodeling in asthma. While it demonstrated biological activity in clinical trials, its development for asthma was discontinued in favor of other therapeutic approaches.
