Description

Briakinumab is a fully humanized monoclonal antibody designed to treat autoimmune diseases. It functions by specifically targeting and neutralizing the shared p40 subunit of the cytokines IL-12 and IL-23. Clinical development primarily focused on conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and multiple sclerosis. However, despite showing therapeutic promise, its development was halted and it did not receive approval from regulatory agencies in the United States and Europe in 2011, as authorities required additional clinical data to fully assess its safety and efficacy profile.
