- Description
- Kallikrein-7 (also known as Serine protease 6, Stratum corneum chymotryptic enzyme) is encoded by the KLK7 gene (also known as hK7, PRSS6, SCCE) gene in human. It is a member of the kallikrein subfamily of serine proteases, members of which are involved in diverse physiological functions and many are used clinically as biomarkers for cancer. Kallikrein-7 has chymotrypsin-like activity and plays a role in the proteolysis of intercellular cohesive structures that precedes desquamation, the shedding of the outermost layer of the epidermis. Increased expression is associated with unfavorable prognosis and progression of several types of cancer.
