Description

Lulizumab is a humanized anti-CD28 monoclonal antibody engineered as a selective co-stimulation modulator. CD28 is a critical co-stimulatory receptor on T cells. Unlike early superagonistic anti-CD28 antibodies that caused severe cytokine release syndrome, lulizumab is designed to provide a partial or modulated signal upon binding. Its intended mechanism is to fine-tune T-cell activation¡ªpotentially enhancing regulatory T cell (Treg) function or providing suboptimal co-stimulation¡ªwithout inducing massive pro-inflammatory cytokine release. It has been investigated for the treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, where modulating T-cell responses is therapeutic.
