- Description
- Peroxisomal targeting signal 1 receptor (PEX5) protein is a protein endcoded from the PEX5 gene. PEX5 is an important peroxisome biogenesis factor located on peroxisomal membrane protein. PEX5 is the cytosolic recepter for the import of perxisomal matrix protein. PEX5 has been shown to interact with other PEX proteins such as PEX12, PEX13 and PEX14. Peroxisomes, also known as microbodies, are single membrane organelles found in almost all eukaryotic cells. They contain many enzymes involved in a variety of metabolic reactions, including several aspects of energy metabolism. Mutations of genes encoding perixosomal proteins, or the inability to form peroxisomes can lead to human disesases such as Peroxisome Biogenesis Disorders or Zellweger syndrome (ZWS). This antibody can be used to both quantify and identify peroxisomes in mammalian cells.
