Description
Translocon-associated protein subunit alpha (UniProt P43307), also known as SSR-alpha, TRAP-alpha, Signal sequence receptor subunit alpha, Translocon-associated protein alpha subunit) is encoded by the SSR1 gene in human. The translocation site (translocon), at which nascent polypeptides pass through the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, is formed by the association of the Sec61p complex, the TRAM protein, and the tetrameric "translocon-associated protein" (TRAP) complex composed of four glycosylated transmembrane signal sequence receptor (SSR) proteins (SSR1/alpha, SSR2/beta, SSR3/gamma, SSR4/delta).
