Description
Glenzocimab (development code ACT-017) is an investigational, humanized monoclonal antibody fragment (Fab) developed for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke and potentially other thrombotic conditions. It functions as a novel antiplatelet agent with a unique mechanism of action. Unlike traditional antiplatelet drugs that target platelet activation pathways (e.g., P2Y12 or COX-1 inhibition), glenzocimab is a selective inhibitor of platelet glycoprotein VI (GPVI). By binding to GPVI on the surface of platelets, it blocks the primary receptor for collagen, a key protein exposed at sites of vascular injury. This inhibition prevents collagen-induced platelet activation and thrombus formation without completely impairing hemostasis, aiming to reduce the risk of intracranial hemorrhage (bleeding), a major concern in stroke therapy.
