Description
Ensituximab (also known as NEO-102 and NPC-1C) is a novel, chimeric immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1) monoclonal antibody developed as a biological therapy for patients with pancreatic and colorectal cancers. It was designed to bind to a set of human colorectal and pancreatic carcinoma-associated antigens. The exact molecular target(s) of ensituximab remain(s) uncertain, representing a unique and challenging aspect of its development. While initially described as targeting undefined tumor-associated antigens, subsequent research suggested that its primary target might be the specific mucin protein MUC5AC. The intended mechanism of action involves binding to these antigens on the surface of cancer cells, potentially inhibiting tumor-promoting functions and marking the cells for immune-mediated destruction (e.g., via ADCC).
