Description

Fremanezumab is a fully humanized monoclonal IgG2a antibody approved for the preventive treatment of migraine in adults. It belongs to the class of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) pathway inhibitors. Fremanezumab functions as a highly selective ligand inhibitor, specifically binding to the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) ligand itself. By forming complexes with both the ¦Á- and ¦Â-isoforms of CGRP in the circulation, it prevents CGRP from binding to its receptor. This blockade inhibits the neuroinflammatory cascade and vasodilation believed to underlie migraine attacks, thereby reducing the frequency and severity of migraines.
