Description: Dezamizumab (GSK 2398852) is a fully humanized recombinant monoclonal IgG1 antibody specifically targeting the serum amyloid P component (SAP). It was developed as a potential therapy for systemic amyloidosis, a group of diseases characterized by the deposition of misfolded protein fibrils (amyloid) in organs and tissues. The antibody's mechanism was designed to bind to SAP, a universal constituent of amyloid deposits, and promote their clearance by the immune system. Despite reaching clinical trials, the development of dezamizumab for amyloidosis was ultimately discontinued due to an unfavorable benefit-risk assessment, including insufficient efficacy in clearing amyloid from critical organs like the heart.
