Description
Bleselumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody designed as a non-depleting antagonist of the CD40 receptor. It functions by binding to CD40 on antigen-presenting cells (e.g., dendritic cells, B cells) and other immune cells, thereby blocking the interaction with its ligand, CD154 (CD40L), which is primarily expressed on activated T cells. This blockade inhibits a critical co-stimulatory pathway necessary for optimal T cell activation and antibody production. It is being developed as an immunosuppressive agent for the prevention of organ transplant rejection. Notably, its non-depleting mechanism aims to provide immunomodulation without causing broad lymphocyte depletion, potentially offering a different safety profile compared to some existing therapies.
