Description

CD36 (Cluster of Differentiation 36) is an integral membrane protein and has been shown to be part of numerous physiological functions. The protein belongs to the class B scavenger receptor family and can bind to thrombospondin, anionic phospholipids, and oxidized LDL. Recent studies have shown that CD36 plays a role in fatty acid metabolism, taste, heart disease and fat processing in the intestine. CD36 has clinical significance in malaria, blood pressure, obesity, stroke and tuberculosis.
