Description
Inclacumab (development code REGN-728) is an investigational, fully human monoclonal IgG4 antibody being developed to reduce cardiovascular events in patients with atherosclerotic disease, particularly for the prevention of myocardial infarction (heart attack). It functions as a selective inhibitor of P-selectin. By binding with high affinity to P-selectin, inclacumab blocks its interaction with its ligand, P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1). This blockade inhibits a critical early step in the inflammatory cascade that contributes to arterial thrombosis and the progression of atherosclerosis. Specifically, it aims to prevent the adhesion and rolling of leukocytes (white blood cells) on activated endothelial cells and platelets at sites of vascular injury or plaque rupture.
