Description

Vedolizumab is a humanized IgG1 kappa monoclonal antibody designed for the treatment of moderate to severe active inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). It specifically targets the ¦Á4¦Â7 integrin on the surface of lymphocytes, blocking its interaction with mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule-1 (MAdCAM-1) expressed on gut vascular endothelium. This gut-selective mechanism inhibits lymphocyte migration into intestinal tissues, thereby reducing local inflammation while minimizing systemic immunosuppression.
