Vatelizumab is an investigational humanized IgG4 monoclonal antibody that targets the ¦Á2 subunit (CD49b) of very late antigen-2 (VLA-2, also known as integrin ¦Á2¦Â1). This integrin mediates cell adhesion to extracellular matrix components (e.g., collagen) and plays roles in platelet activation, immune cell migration, and tissue repair. By blocking VLA-2 function, vatelizumab aims to inhibit pathological cell adhesion and migration, with potential applications in autoimmune diseases (such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis) or fibrotic disorders.
