Ramucirumab is a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody targeting the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2). It blocks the binding of VEGF ligands to VEGFR-2, inhibiting angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation) and thereby starving tumors of oxygen and nutrients. It is approved for the treatment of advanced gastric, colorectal, lung, and hepatocellular cancers.
