Description

Canakinumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody developed as a targeted anti-inflammatory therapy. It is marketed under the brand name Ilaris and is approved for the treatment of several rare autoinflammatory syndromes characterized by overproduction of interleukin-1¦Â (IL-1¦Â), including Cryopyrin-Associated Periodic Syndromes (CAPS), Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor¨CAssociated Periodic Syndrome (TRAPS), Hyperimmunoglobulin D Syndrome (HIDS)/Mevalonate Kinase Deficiency (MKD), and Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF). Notably, canakinumab gained significant attention for its role in the landmark CANTOS trial, which demonstrated its ability to reduce cardiovascular events in patients with a history of myocardial infarction and elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), independently of lipid lowering.
